John Stevick was a farmer but served in the Liberty Company of Londonderry Township of the Pennsylvania militia, which was formed in May 1775 and was the first militia company in Pennsylvania formed after the Revolutionary War battles of Lexington and Concord. On January 31, 1776, he married the daughter of a Pennsylvania Dutch neighbor, Anna Langenecker. Because he was married and had children, he never went off to fight in the Revolutionary war, although he and his brothers, Abraham, Christian, and Joseph, continued to serve in the township militia throughout the Revolutionary period.

John and Anna Stevick had at least 12 children. John Stevick died on September 28, 1822, leaving 93 acres of land to his oldest son, Abraham. John's wife, Anna Langenecker Stevick, went out to Ohio in about 1825, probably with her son Samuel. She died near Toledo on June 12, 1837, where an obituary in a local paper stated that she had over 80 descendants at the time of her death.
